Manfeild’s Aussie celebration in good heart

SENTIMENTALITY is proving a powerful fuel for an annual celebration of Australian cars.

The upcoming 2019 All Aussie Car Show at Manfeild is the second staged since car manufacturing ceased across the Tasman and, while that loss is keenly felt, growing nostalgia is likely lifting the status of this popular charity event.

Organiser Dwayne Burrell, of Feilding, is confident the display has a good future and will forge a stronger reputation as time goes on. 

“I’m not sure if it’s just pure nostalgia but its profile just seems to build up just that little bit more every year.

“This year’s appears to have got plenty of interest already, there’s been a lot of comment already on social media, which has been really beneficial to us.”

The showcase of sharp metal and impressive horsepower returns to Manfeild for its eighth visit on January 26, over which time it has raised more than $15,000 for the Starship Foundation.

Several hundred often historic, always interesting cars, should be on show on the grassed oval between Manfeild Stadium and South St.

The show puts the spotlight on the predominantly six-cylinder and V8 ‘heavies’ from Ford and Ford Performance Vehicles, Holden and Holden Special Vehicles, Chrysler, Leyland and Rambler.

It also lends display opportunity for American cars – so expect some Stateside muscle too – plus English vehicles.

Everything is there, from the latest, if last of the line fare, to early days’ products, plus modified fare included drag cars and burnout cars.

On top of this there are displays, food stalls, entertainment for kids and a band.

The show is well supported by regional businesses, with 13 lending their support, some providing generous spot prizes which range from automotive supplies to a $1000 photography shoot.

Gates open at 10am and it wraps up at 1pm. Those intending to show their cars are charged $10 per vehicle while spectator entry is by gold coin.

The Manawatu All Aussie Car Club chose Starship as its charity of choice because of the work it does for children and because many Manawatu families have been helped by the Auckland hospital.

Manfeild chief executive Julie Keane is pleased this initiative continues to gather pace.
